Highland School Gets Makeover

Holland Construction Will Direct Improvements Worth Thousands at Highlandtown Elementary/ Middle School#215 Saturday, October 10

(Baltimore, MD. - October 7, 2009) A local Baltimore public school is about to score a major upgrade, thanks to an all-volunteer improvement effort led by local firm Holland Construction Company.

On Saturday, October 10 from 8 AM to 3 PM, volunteers from Holland Construction and the community will descend on Highlandtown Elementary/ Middle School #215, located at 3223 E. Pratt Street in Baltimore, to tackle an array of landscaping, repair, maintenance and beautifi cation projects. The service day seeks to celebrate the Highlandtown community and the school itself in particular.

“Highlandtown Elementary is an integral part of the Highlandtown community and deserves to look its best,” says Joe Holland, President of Holland Construction. “Our company is proud to contribute to this school that means so much to students, faculty and community residents.” Holland estimates the total value of the daylong effort to be $10,000.

Holland organized the service day in response to community concerns about needed improvements to the school’s interior and exterior appearance. Enhancements to the school’s campus will include:

• Painting the school’s second level and gym;
• Planting native shrubs and plants in the existing flowerbed in front of the school;
• Applying landscaping fabric and mulch to the playground area;
• Constructing a stage in the cafeteria; and
• Building a partition and shelves in the school’s office.

Along with the hands-on work from onsite volunteers, the service day also will receive support from nine sponsoring businesses through fi nancial gifts and in-kind contributions. Contributing companies include:
